Josh Heyde, Teesside University BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming graduate
Josh Heyde
Teesside University
BSc Computer Games Programming graduate
What was it originally that attracted you to study at Teesside?
The diversity of courses dedicated to games, ensuring that the course was not just an extra to attract students, but a proper course for the discipline.
What was the most important thing you learnt:
a) conceptually?
Working with people from other disciplines, such as artists and designers.
b) technically?
How to program all aspects of a game, from low level to high level.
What were the best parts of the course? Being able to actually develop small games, rather than just learning the theory.
What was the toughest, most challenging thing you encountered?
The toughest thing I encountered was my project in the second year developing a small 2D game. This was my first time creating a game and most of the concepts were entirely new to me. It took a lot of dedication to learn the concepts, but they have proved invaluable.
What do you feel were the best parts of your course/university?
Being able to actually develop small games, rather than just learning the theory.
What was the biggest achievement/success on the course for you?
The biggest achievement in the course was the final development of my 2D game, which opened up the field of AI, which I have since chosen to pursue.
