Anthony Guiry's experience of Southampton Solent Skillset Media Academy

Anthony Guiry is in his third year at Southampton Solent Skillset Media Academy
Anthony Guiry, a third year BA (Hons) Television Production student at Southampton Solent Skillset Media Academy, has developed his skills considerably during the last two years.
Anthony chose to study at Southampton Solent due to its diverse selection of TV and Media related courses and recommends potential students choose a Skillset Media Academy.
Being at a Skillset Media Academy means that to employers you have a certain level of understanding and commitment in the field and if you back that up with as much work experience as possible, you have a good combination for potential employers.
The Academy’s multi-media production centre, Solent Productions, gave Anthony very rich experience on live client projects including filming live music and documentary for Glastonbury 2008 and 2009. Anthony found working on both elements over the past two years enjoyable as well as being a great experience. He was also able to film all event coverage for Cowes Week 2009: “The footage was broadcast live to every TV on the Isle of Wight.”
The next client project for Anthony involved researching, filming and editing a short film for the Mary Rose Trust. As Director and Camera Operator, he was responsible for all visuals and the interviewing process, and was awarded a First for the project.
Looking to the future Anthony feels somewhat intimidated about entering the industry but also feels confident due to the amount of work experience behind him. “Despite feeling scared, I also feel confident compared to the other students. There is nothing more important than work experience. It would definitely be harder for me if Skillset had not helped me with that.”
