Liverpool John Moores Skillset Media Academy
Comprises:
Liverpool John Moores University
Liverpool Community College
Liverpool John Moores Skillset Media Academy's collaborative partnership provides a defined progression route for students, supported by excellent regional industry links.
This new Skillset Media Academy addresses the widening access agenda by providing a variety of access routes which encourage applications and participation from under-represented areas of the community.
Liverpool Community College validates Level 1 awards through the pilot project Toxteth TV, where young people, many of whom are drawn from under-represented and marginalised groups, receive training in video production alongside professional companies.
The partnership has a sophisticated approach to developing the soft skills that are
prized by industry. The innovative approach towards content production engages with the digital and convergence agendas and students have the opportunity to work across a range of subject areas and technical media, with a view to encouraging innovative independent production on multi-platforms.
Liverpool John Moores is highly effective at supporting the regeneration of industry and commerce in the northwest; the University is integrated into the region's strategy to incubate new businesses in the creative industries' sector. It is the vision that this partnership is delivering that leaves it well placed to drive the creative industries forward in the region.
